How To Solve “glue Overflow” When Die-cutting The Sticker Labels?
Aug 04, 2022| What is Die-cutting Glue Overflow?
Die-cutting glue overflow usually refers to the phenomenon of glue overflowing from the label edge after die-cutting process. Die-cutting glue overflow is one of the most common problems of self-adhesive labels, which can easily lead to label appearance defects, print contamination, poor peel, etc.. Therefore, it is particularly important to identify the causes of die-cutting glue overflow, and develop appropriate solutions.
Correct selection and use of self-adhesive materials according to the production process and environment.
Adhesives for self-adhesive label materials are acrylic resin and rubber-based, both of which are pressure-sensitive adhesives and are susceptible to deformation under the influence of high temperature, high humidity and pressure conditions. Therefore, in the selection of self-adhesive label materials, you need to consult with the supplier in advance of the type of adhesive, processing performance of the material. Excessive high temperature will make the fluidity of the adhesive greatly increased, especially in the summer and rainy season is the season of self-adhesive material spill glue problems.

In addition, the problem of adhesive spillage is also closely related to the amount of adhesive coating, such as tire labels, the amount of adhesive coating is relatively large, more likely to overflow adhesive. Therefore, there should be a difference in the amount of adhesive coating in winter and summer, which is more sensitive to the surface material for the film self-adhesive material. It should be noted that the winter self-adhesive materials and summer self-adhesive materials are different in the formulation, should not be used in the wrong season, and should not long-term stockpiling of self-adhesive label materials, should be reduced as far as possible, according to the "first in, first out" principle of using self-adhesive materials.
The processing and storage environment of self-adhesive labels
Excessive temperature or humidity will increase the fluidity of the adhesive and greatly increase the possibility of adhesive spillage on self-adhesive labels. Therefore, the production of self-adhesive labels in the summer should be kept at a suitable temperature in the workshop. Generally speaking, the label processing and storage environment temperature should be controlled at 23°C ± 3°C and the relative humidity should be controlled at 55% ± 5%.
Quality control of self-adhesive label die-cutting
When die-cutting self-adhesive labels, the blunt edge of the knife will cause the label adhesive to flip and squeeze, resulting in overflow of adhesive on the edge of the label during die-cutting, so you must use a sharp knife for die-cutting.

In addition, the size of the die-cutting pressure will also have a certain impact on the overflow of adhesive, to strictly control the die-cutting pressure. Too large die-cutting pressure will cause excessive extrusion of the label adhesive; too small die-cutting pressure will cause the die-cutting process of adhesive pulling, thus forming an overflow of adhesive on the edge or surface of the self-adhesive label.
Self-adhesive label processing process control
In the self-adhesive label processing process, should avoid the existence of sliding friction on the label, this is because the sliding friction on the parts of the glue is easy to accumulate, the self-adhesive label edge to form pollution. In this case, the overflow glue position on the label will show a clear pattern and directionality.
Self-adhesive label rewinding tension control
Excessive rewind tension can cause excessive squeezing of the label adhesive and even cause label slippage on the backing paper, which can lead to adhesive spillage problems.
