How To Reduce Adhesive Waste And Reduce Ink Toxicity

Feb 08, 2022|

Printing waste will not only cause serious pollution to our living environment, but also reduce the production cost of enterprises while producing waste, which should be paid great attention to for the printing industry. Therefore, in today's fierce market competition, how to reduce the generation of waste and how to use raw materials to the best level is particularly important for the development of printing enterprises.

1. Solvent and blanket cleaning agent waste, and methods to reduce hazardous solvent waste include:

① Discuss with the supplier how to reduce the amount of the solvent;

② Reduce the use and waste of solvent by recycling waste solvent. For flexographic printing and gravure printing, the solvent is recovered by distillation; For blanket cleaning solvent, the method of filtration and solid-liquid separation is adopted;

③ Use the solvent recovered by distillation to dilute the ink or clean the ink roller and other printing equipment;

④ Reduce the amount of solvent applied to the cleaning rag, spray the solvent on the rag with a bottle with a nozzle, and do not immerse the rag directly in the solvent;

⑤ Prepare a container for the cleaning solvent of each color printing unit respectively to recover and reuse the solvent of each color printing unit, so that a small amount of solvent can be used to complete the cleaning work, while most of the solvent will not be wasted, and can also be recovered for reuse;

⑥ Start printing with light ink to reduce the use of cleaning solvent.

Note: solvent waste cannot be directly discharged into sewers or rivers, but should be placed in liquid waste recovery equipment. It is generally treated by evaporation without special circumstances.

2. Cleaning rags soaked with ink, mineral oil or solvent are generally difficult to clean. In order to reduce the use of rags, the following methods can be adopted:

① Reuse the rag as much as possible. First wipe it with a dirty rag, and then wipe it again with a clean cloth;

② Wash the rag by wetting and extrusion for repeated use, but first remove the solvent as much as possible;

③ Using waste materials from other industries (such as clothing waste) as rags can also solve the problem of waste disposal in other industries.

3. Ink and its storage tank waste can be reduced by the following methods:

① Use the remaining ink as much as possible or mix the old ink into the new ink. Contact the ink supplier to inquire which of the above methods should be adopted. If the remaining ink does not need to be reused, some suppliers will recycle the old ink;

② Clean the ink bucket only when the color is changed or the ink is dry and solid during printing operation. Special non drying aerosol can be sprayed into the ink bucket to prevent the ink from drying overnight or after shutdown;

③ Printing according to the standard color sequence, eliminating the need to clean the ink bucket;

④ Replace the ink tin with a plastic box. The current printing press uses this kind of ink cartridge, which can push out the ink through the piston, so as to ensure the cleanness of the ink cartridge and avoid laborious cleaning;

⑤ Thoroughly clean the waste ink storage tank, and the residues can be divided into hazardous wastes according to categories.
