Sticker Label Lamination Wrinkles, Bubbles, A Few Tips To Easily Solve!

Sep 19, 2022|

Lamination is one of the more common surface finishing processes for self-adhesive label printing, there are no bottom film, bottom film, pre-coated film, UV adhesive film and other types, which helps to improve the label's wear resistance, water resistance, dirt resistance, chemical corrosion resistance and other properties.

Although the lamination can effectively improve the label grade, but in the lamination process, often encounter some lamination problems, such as wrinkles, bubbles, curling, etc., affecting product quality, resulting in adverse consequences. So, what are the causes of bad lamination problems? How to avoid the occurrence of lamination problems?

Laminated folds

Uneven pressure roller

Most self-adhesive labels are laminated with BOPP and PET materials, and the film is applied to the surface of the printed material through a silicone or polyurethane pressure roller. At this time, if the pressure roller is not flat, it will lead to uneven pressure when laminating, a more common phenomenon is the pressure is "big on one side and small on the other", when laminating the film will be squeezed by the pressure side to the pressure side, resulting in laminating folds.

We can adjust the spring at both ends of the pressure roller to balance the pressure at both ends of the roller. The specific practice is: use 0.1mm thickness of the stopper into the two ends of the pressure roller, feel the pressure, which end of the pressure is small on the top of the spring pressure until the two ends of the pressure to balance.

Surface aging of pressure roller

Because the polyurethane material is relatively easy to aging, laminating pressure roller with a long time the surface will be aging, cracking, hardening and other problems, this kind of pressure roller in the laminating film is likely to lead to small folds, not easily detected by the naked eye, thus causing larger quality problems.

Uneven tension

Sometimes uneven tension can also easily lead to lamination creases. The uneven tension mentioned here may be a problem with film materials, printing materials, or printing equipment. In the laminating process, if the material "loose side and tight side", no matter what the cause, its external performance is very obvious, that is, the material on both sides of the tension size is obviously inconsistent, then we use our fingers to press the material on both sides will obviously feel tight side and loose side. Once this happens, it is easy to lead to lamination folds, and is more obvious large folds, we need to adjust the equipment or replace the material to solve.

It should be especially noted that not all printing equipment has a tension adjustment device, there is a tension adjustment device equipment, you can try to solve the problem by adjusting the overall or local tension; no tension adjustment device equipment, usually need to replace the material to solve the problem.

Film Self-Defect

Some film materials are inherently defective when they leave the factory, with small folds on them, and they are often not easily detected by the naked eye, which can lead to relatively large product losses if they are not detected in time during the production process. Therefore, in the laminating process operators need to frequently inspect the quality of the film, if found on the surface of the film defects, must be replaced in a timely manner, so as not to increase material losses. It is recommended to install online automatic inspection equipment to check the quality of the product, so that problems can be detected and dealt with in time.
