The Binding Way For Catalogue

On the market, there are mainly two kinds of binding methods for catalogues, soft cover and hard cover, which each have different characteristics and advantages.
1. Soft binding
normally refers to paperback or plain packaging, which is characterized by low cost, easy to carry and flip through, suitable for a large number of copies and distribution of catalogs. Soft bound book covers usually use lighter paper or cardboard, binding method can be:
● Suitable for printed matter with fewer pages, such as periodicals, brochures, etc.
● Binding speed and low cost, easy to flip, can be fully divided.
● Not suitable for thick books or important documents due to poor fastness.
● When binding, note that the total number of pages must be a multiple of 4.
● Suitable for thicker books, the inner page paper weight is less than 157g/m².
● Pages and covers are glued with hot melt adhesive for smooth and beautiful binding.
● Suitable for mechanized operation of the assembly line, but it is difficult to fully open the page, not suitable for cross-page pictures.
● Bad gum or turning times may fall off, cold may become brittle.
● Divided into rubber binding and iron binding, easy to flip through and change the page.
● The cover and back cover are generally coated or frosted, and the inner pages are usually 80 grams of copy paper or coated paper.
● Suitable for office data, conference data, etc., need to leave a hole distance.

● Binding methods that combine traditional and modern techniques are suitable for thicker and longer term books.
● Use thread sewing and hot melt bonding to enhance binding firmness.

● Binding process is complex, equipment cost is high, but the binding effect is stable.
2. Hardcover binding
refers to hardcover, with high durability and protection, suitable for long-term storage or collection of catalogs. The cover material of hardcover binding is diverse, can be cardboard, leather or other materials, and the binding method is mostly locked wire glue, which makes the book more strong and beautiful. Hard-bound books are more refined in appearance and are suitable for display as high-end products or corporate images. However, the corresponding cost is also higher, and the weight is heavier, and it is not as convenient to carry as soft leather binding.
When choosing the binding method of the catalogue, it should be decided according to the actual needs, budget and target audience. If the catalog needs to be updated or distributed frequently, soft binding may be a more suitable choice; If the catalog is used for high-end display or as a long-term collection, the hardcover binding is more valuable.
